Steve Jurvetson on model rocketry

Video Information

Speaker: Steve Jurvetson
Talk: Steve Jurvetson on model rocketry

Description
Steve Jurvetson talks about his love of rockets. He starts off with a quick intro to different types of rockets. He continues on to talk about Black Rock Desert where he says "dangerous things happen". Jurvetson shows pictures of successes and failures. The failures can cause property damage, just blow up or spiral out of control. Even some of the successes have less than gentle landings. One rocket became a "bunker buster". It went to 100,000 feet, but then came straight down and went 11 feet into the solid clay ground.

Despite everything, he says that success is what motivates people who love rockets. Success is also what motivates kids to understand rocket science and the physics and math that go with it.

My Impressions
There were some great photos in the video. The video really shows that a successful launch can be as much fun as a rocket that goes out of control or blows up. Going out to Black Rock Desert and watching the rockets looks like it would be a lot of fun.
